This is a an early photograph of a mother holding her  type 1 diabetic child. No matter how much this boy eats, his body will continue starving to death from the lack of insulin.
The miracle of insulin ... The child before and 32 days after the first injection of insulin in 1922. But today the majority of people in most countries still cannot access Insulin.

 

 


Very old insulin bottle and instructions for use. Bottle label includes patent dates of 10-9-23 and 12-23-24. The instructions contain such interesting phrases as: "Iletin, also known as Insulin, Lilly, as at present supplied, is an aqueous solution of the active anidabetic principle obtained from the islands of Langerhans in the pancreas". And, "If the syringe is sterilized by boiling, use distilled or rain water and not hard water". Bottle measures 2 3/8"H x 1"W. Manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company.
